Community Service: Community-Based Experience and Services (COBES)

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is renowned for its commitment to community service and sports development, fostering holistic education and societal impact.

Established in 1977 within the College of Health Sciences, the Community-Based Experience and Services (COBES) program immerses students in rural communities to identify and address local health and social challenges.  Recognized by the World Health Organization, COBES emphasizes student-centered, community-based, and problem-solving approaches.  Students engage in activities such as health education, sanitation projects, and data collection to improve community well-being.  In 2008, the program expanded university-wide, encouraging all faculties to participate.  For instance, in 2023, over 470 students from the Faculty of Agriculture contributed to health initiatives in Kwara communities, demonstrating the program’s broad impact.
